prachtig Jazz album Njoy!

Although his is not a famous name, Harvey Mason is likely to be found on any number of recordings in your collection. The original drummer for Herbie Hancock’s fusion group the Headhunters, a founder of Fourplay, and the veteran of countless recordings both as a leader and session man for the likes of Bill Withers, Beck, James Brown, Leslie Gore, and a deeply impressive roster of others, Mason here teams with equally illustrious “changing partners” for a set of highly polished straight-ahead jazz. Here you’ll find standards such as “Change Partners” and “You Don’t Know What Love Is,” with Jacky Terrasson on piano and James Genus on drums. “Sweet and Lovely” finds Stanley Clarke on bass and Gonzalo Rubalcaba at the keys while Chick Corea’s “Waltz for Dave” features Chick himself on piano (with bassist Dave Carpenter). Although Trios 2 was recorded in three different studios the sound, while slightly variable, is consistently excellent. Pristinely clean, full, and rich, Mason’s kit is impressively natural and “there” sounding, revealing every detail of his considerable talent, while the bassists and pianists are rendered with equal clarity and tonal accuracy. Dynamics are likewise excellent, making Mason’s first release on the Evosound label quite a memorable one.
